sometimes i forget the kid exists!
Not when I’m home, at the apartment, I mean, you’d have to be in a deep coma not to notice a sometimes wailing, sometimes yelling, sometimes laughing, sometimes snoring six-month-old in the house, demanding food or sleep or more of both or to be picked up off the play-mat or dried off from a bath or given a hug to just chill the fuck out. No, not then.
But sometimes at work, like, I’ll forget he exists for thirty minutes, or even an hour! I helped create this creature, he’s flesh and blood of my flesh and blood and sometimes I forget that he’s even around! He’s at daycare being cared after during the day — hence the name — and I’ll be uptown, in the office, writing emails, playing wordle, sitting in meetings, and a half hour will pass and I’ll forget he’s in this world! Then I snap to it — oh, yeah, the kid! Wonder how he’s doing?
Penn Amory Hatch, that’s the kid. Penn, named after a departed relative whose name began with P; plus the name is short and cool and yeah we just liked it and it stuck. Amory will maybe be explained in another blog post some day. If I remember.
